Lattes and Mocha: Exploring These Core Coffee Shop Drinks
Latte vs. Mocha. One of the more common menu conundrums is the difference between these two coffee shop delights. Today we’re breaking down the definitions of each, so you’re fully equipped for your next How You Brewin Coffee visit!
What is a latte?
This classic beverage is one-third espresso and two-thirds steamed milk, incorporating a small dose of textured milk, also known as microfoam. Lattes can be served plain or sweetened with flavored syrups: caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, etc. Simple, right?
What is a mocha?
When you hear “mocha,” think “hot chocolate with coffee.” The mocha is a sweet blend of sauce with espresso and velvety textured milk. The result is a bold, intoxicatingly rich drink.
Latte Vs. Mocha
So what’s the difference between a latte and a mocha latte? The simple answer: chocolate. The more complex answer: the espresso-to-milk ratios. Because the mocha incorporates chocolate syrup into its makeup, it will naturally contain a tad less steamed milk than the latte, thus why the latte tastes a little more subdued than its chocolatey counterpart. A mocha packs a sweet punch.
